See a history of every change
Go to Governance, then Audit history. Every change made in CharityControl is recorded automatically, with the person, the action and the time. Search by person or keyword, and open an entry to see before and after values. Entries can't be edited or deleted.
Every change made in your workspace is written down automatically: who made it, what changed and when. Nobody has to remember to do it, and nobody can forget. This is the record charity governance has always asked for, kept for you.
Look something up
- Go to Governance, then Audit history. (Administrators can also reach it from Admin & settings.)
- Type in the search box to find entries by person, action or summary. Searching for "risk" finds every change to the risk register; searching for a trustee's name finds everything they did.
- Use the All resources menu to narrow the list to one area, such as policies or meetings.
- Where an entry changed particular fields, select show changed fields to see the before and after values. For example: owner, Jane to Bob.
What gets recorded
Every change: creating, editing, approving and deleting, across every register. Each entry shows the person's name, a plain summary of what they did, and the date and time. Reading and searching are free of side effects, so you can't break anything by looking.
Why this protects volunteers
Months after a decision, memories differ. "Who changed that risk score?" and "when was that policy adopted?" become awkward questions when nobody can answer them. With the audit history, the answer is a search away, and it's the same answer for everyone.
It protects people as much as records. If you acted in good faith, the history shows exactly what you did and when. Nothing can quietly disappear, and no one can edit or delete an entry from inside CharityControl. It also shows your independent examiner, and if it ever came to it the Charity Commission, that your charity keeps proper records.
Who can see it?
It depends on the role each person has been given in roles and permissions. If you can't see the page, ask your administrator.
