Open Governance, then Sector & regulatory updates. New items from the Charity Commission, ICO, HMRC and other official sources are filed automatically each week with a plain-English summary. Read an update, acknowledge it, and table the important ones as pre-reads for your next meeting.
Where the updates come from
CharityControl watches official sources: the Charity Commission, the ICO, HMRC and the Fundraising Regulator. Each week it files the genuine changes charities must act on as new updates. Each one is summarised in plain English, with a note on what it means for your charity and what to do.
Nothing is ever actioned for you. Updates arrive with the status "new" and wait for a person to review them.
Review and acknowledge an update
- Go to Governance, then Sector & regulatory updates.
- Open an update to read the summary and what it means for your charity.
- If acknowledgement is asked for, select I have read & acknowledge. You can add a short note.
- Set an owner and a status (reviewing, actioned, or not applicable) so the register shows where things stand.
The update's page lists who has acknowledged it, so the chair can see at a glance who still needs a nudge.
Table an update at a meeting
- Open the update and select Pre-read.
- Pick the meeting.
The update now appears with that meeting's papers, so trustees arrive having read it.
Log your own update
Select Log update to add something you've spotted yourself, for example a point from your examiner's management letter. Give it a title, a category and a source, then say what the change is and what it means for your charity.
Common questions
Will I be flooded? No. The weekly check is deliberately cautious. Routine news is skipped, and only real regulatory changes are filed. Each item is filed once, however often the check runs.
Can I remove one that doesn't apply? Set its status to "not applicable" and it stays on the record with your judgement attached. Meadowbank Community Trust marks VAT changes this way because it isn't VAT registered.
