Connect QuickBooks Online
An admin can connect QuickBooks Online from the Integrations page today. Live finance figures from QuickBooks are still being built, so for now enter your figures by hand on the Finance page. Everything else in CharityControl works as normal.
What works today
We want to be straight with you. You can connect your QuickBooks Online account now, so it's linked and ready. The live figures (cash, profit and loss, fund balances) are the part we're still building for QuickBooks, so don't expect them yet.
Until they arrive, enter your figures by hand on the Finance page. It takes a few minutes a month and keeps your reserves and runway visible. See Track money without accounting software.
Connect your QuickBooks account
- Sign in as an admin and open Integrations (under Admin & settings).
- Find the QuickBooks Online card in the Finance & fundraising group.
- Choose Connect to QuickBooks. Your browser goes to Intuit's own sign-in page.
- Sign in and approve the connection, picking your charity's company.
- You come back to CharityControl and see "QuickBooks connected successfully".
Common questions
It's asking for a client ID and secret
That means app credentials aren't saved for your workspace yet. An admin pastes the client ID and secret from a QuickBooks app, and the Connect button then appears. If that sounds unfamiliar, ask us and we'll sort it with you.
Can we connect Xero as well?
No. A charity keeps one accounting connection at a time. If Xero is connected, the QuickBooks card asks you to disconnect Xero first.
Does CharityControl change anything in QuickBooks?
No. We only read from QuickBooks. We never write to your books.
What about Gift Aid?
QuickBooks can't file Gift Aid claims with HMRC. CharityControl does that itself, from each declaration through to the electronic claim, whether or not QuickBooks is connected. See Claim Gift Aid online.
When do live figures arrive?
We're building them now, and we'll tell you when they're ready. Your connection stays in place in the meantime.
