Organise a volunteer rota
Record what each volunteer is good at on the skills matrix. They then appear on the Volunteers & skills page with their skills shown at a glance. Put them to work as a project lead, workstream owner or task owner, and log the hours they give.
Build your list of helpers
- Record each person's skills on the skills matrix. That's all it takes for them to appear as a volunteer.
- Go to Projects and select Volunteers to open the Volunteers & skills page.
- Everyone with at least one recorded skill is listed, with their skills shown as badges. A star marks someone's strongest skills, so you can see at a glance who to ask.
- Open your project and give people the work. You can make someone the project lead, a workstream owner or a task owner.
- Log the hours they give, so their effort is on the record. See Track time and expenses on a project.
The rota on a project page
When a project has a volunteer rota, it appears on the project page. Each slot shows the date, the role, the start and end times, and who's down for it. A slot with nobody named is flagged as unfilled, so gaps are easy to spot before the day. Rota hours are totalled and shown next to the project's logged time.
Common questions
Why isn't someone showing on the Volunteers & skills page?
People appear once they have at least one skill recorded on the skills matrix. Add a skill for them and they'll show up.
Do volunteers need an account?
Not to be on the list or the rota. They only need to sign in if you want them using CharityControl themselves, for example ticking off their own tasks. Add them as a user with the volunteer role, and they'll see only the projects they're involved in. See Invite your fellow trustees for how adding users works.
