Record the awards and bursaries your charity gives

Checked 2026-08-06 · A couple of minutes to read

The Recognitions page in Governance keeps a year-by-year record of the awards, prizes, grants, bursaries, certificates and diplomas your charity gives, with the recipient, the amount and what it was given for. It is the historical record, separate from grant due-diligence checks.

If your charity gives out awards, prizes, bursaries or certificates, that history is worth keeping properly. It shows your charity delivering its purpose year after year, and it answers questions like "who won this in 2019?" without digging through old newsletters.

Record a recognition

  1. Open Governance, then Recognitions.
  2. Select New recognition.
  3. Pick the Kind (award, grant, bursary, certificate, diploma or prize) and the Year.
  4. Give it a Title. For example, Meadowbank Community Trust records its "Volunteer of the Year Award".
  5. Choose the Recipient from your people register, or type a name if they're not on it.
  6. Add the date it was Awarded on, and the Amount if it's a grant or bursary.
  7. Write the Citation, what it was given for, and link a project if one applies. For example: "for outstanding help at the summer fair".
  8. Save it. It appears in the list under its year.

Finding things later

The page filters by kind and year, and you can search by title or recipient. Anything from past years can be added the same way, so you can build the full history back as far as your records go.

Is this the same as the grants register?

No. Recognitions is the honours record: who received what and why. If you're giving out money and need to check the recipient first, use grants and due diligence for the checks, and record the award itself here.
