Run a fundraising campaign

Checked 2026-08-06 · A couple of minutes to read

Go to Giving, then Campaigns, and select New campaign. Give it a name and a goal if you have one. When you record a donation, pick the campaign, and the campaign page shows what it has raised against the target.

Create a campaign

  1. Go to Giving, then Campaigns.
  2. Select New campaign.
  3. Give it a name, for example "the 2026 summer appeal", and a short description if you like.
  4. Enter a Goal in pounds if you have a target. You can leave it blank for an open-ended appeal.
  5. Pick the Fund the money belongs to. An appeal for a stated purpose is restricted money, so choosing restricted here keeps that clear from the start. You can also name the exact fund from your fund register.
  6. If the appeal pays for a specific piece of work, choose it under Funds this project. That link lets supporters later see what their gift achieved.
  7. Add start and end dates if the appeal has them.
  8. Select Create campaign.

Link gifts to the campaign

When you record a donation, pick the campaign in the Campaign field. The campaign card then shows the total raised, the number of gifts, and a progress bar towards the goal. When you pass the target, a Goal reached badge appears.

When the appeal ends

Open the campaign with the pencil button and set its Status to closed. Closed campaigns stop appearing as a choice on new donations, but everything they raised stays on record.

Common questions

Can I delete a campaign? Only if no gifts are linked to it. Gifts are financial records, so a campaign with donations attributed can't be deleted; reassign or remove those gifts first, or just close the campaign instead.

Do supporters see campaigns? Not directly. But if a campaign funds a project, supporters who gave to it can see that work, and updates on it, through their private portal page.
